CHRISTOPHER JARVIS

“Artist in Residence” on our web site

His own exhibition opens 17 May. Go: Exhibition

Report by Jeremy Iles-North (your webmaster) on 31 March

Today I went to view the work in progess for Christopher`s special feature at  the gallery, opening on 17 May and running until 14 June. I found him in a bit of a dither with so many ideas spilling out of his head and not enough time to get them all down at once. I think I left him a little calmer, but of course we do want him excited!

Chris is, of course, working on local scenes with lots of atmosphere, like “Gloomy Night at Jaspers Gate” (Temporary Title) right, another finished work. See also more nostalgia below “Threshing”, unfinished.

He has actually finished a few so we looked at these first. Provisionally called “Jazz Session” the picture to the left is a great success and as afficianados will know is right in line with his interests in music, as a member of a group who regularly play together in Gigs.

“Eros at Night” (temporary title), to the right, is also finished and reflects his continuing nostalgic interest in man and machine.

Christopher`s feature will include lots of maritime interest too. Shown here are two unfinished works “Racing Schooners” (right) and“Cutty Sark Leading” (below right)

“Rochester Cathedral from Boley Hill” (left) is probably finished and comletes the work in progress to date. However he has a list of subjects some more developed than others which include:

A4 Pacific Engine in York Station
Whitstable Oyster Catchers
Wright Brothers over Farmland
Medway Yacht Club at Upnor
Bluebells and more music

SO WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MONTHLY UPDATES!
