Daughter-in-law to Rowland Hilder , she was taught by him to paint.  As well as supporting her husband Anthony Flemming in his work as an artist, Heather’s watercolours are very popular with their bright, Mediterranean feel and bold style. Here we show eight of her twelve pictures submitted for the exhibition

I had the pleasure of a talk with Heather today about her visit to the Ile de Ré whilst I was photographing the pictures she had brought back. “I found it very challenging as there was a lot going on and I do like to simplify both colours and patterns” she told me. “I find that the first ten minutes are so important as that is when I get the first emotional response which is so exciting. When I get back to the studio I usually find that whilst there may have been many choices, and I may have sketched them, it is often the first reaction that is the one that works best for me. If the first resonse does not work out on location it still gives me something to come back to......”
