CHRIS NEWBROOK
Chris Newbrook studied Fine Art at the University of Northumbria.
In 2003 he won an important art competition: The Dover Prize, which was an open competition in Darlington. This influenced his decision to become a full-time artist and his studio is now based in Rochester, Kent.
His paintings of street scenes and cityscapes explore intimate spaces, such as quiet side streets or open public spaces which are brought to life by depicting human activity and contrasts of light and colour. Chris often likes to create atmospheric light and form and is always fascinated by a sense of theatrical mystery within cities.
