TRIBUTE
When Roland Batchelor died at the age of nearly 101 in 1990, we lost a wonderful artist and friend. He was much loved and his originals were collected by many of our clients who will remember his ability to find the essence of France in his simple line and delicate watercolours. (Yes, he painted other countries too but it was France to which he went whenever he could, from early days in Customs and Excise right through to well after he was 60 and retired)
Going through his sketch books has been an emotional experience for those of us who knew him and his work…it was an education to read his notes to himself, a poignant reminder of what we have lost and a joy to see so much new unpublished work from this lovable man.
His sketches and near finished paintings will be issued in small batches of 20 or so. We have kept the price to a very affordable level in order that as many people as possible may enjoy collecting his work. Please watch out for them over the next few months., we will publish them on our web site as they become available.
