ANTHONY FLEMMING (SON)

Work by Anthony Flemming has been showing in the Francis Iles Gallery since 1972 when he gave up designing racing cars for Brabham, Maclaren and the like, to follow his true passion, painting.  A truly gifted and versatile artist he uses all mediums, to suit the occasion and the subject.

He is a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, who meet and paint regularly along the length of the Thames and around the coastline of Kent and Essex. As a keen sailor himself, like his esteemed father, the late Rowland Hilder, he manages to make any sailing craft sit just right on the water, with sails set correctly to the breeze. He is just as comfortable with ocean racers, having participated in the Fastnet and ARC Trans Atlantic race.

Anthony has had many works reproduced as prestigious calendars for such companies as BP, Hovis Mcdougal and Woolwich Building Society. Royale Publications also reproduced many of his paintings as cards or calendars.

In recent years he has found yet another admiring audience, in the book world. Following the publication of ‘Ports of Call’ and then in 2006 with the release of ‘Painting Boats and Harbours’, one is left in no doubt that Anthony Flemming is a master mariner of the art world.
